Leaving Tarbert and the Outer Hebrides

We cycled home after last night's supper in Tarbert, finished packing and got an early night ready for today's 7.25am crossing.  It was a beautiful evening and promised further fair weather for today, this is the view looking back to our B&B across the hill tarn last night;

Unfortunately for Susie, her restless legs kept her awake much of the night.  It's quite an affliction, made worse by the fairly intense exercise of the last two days.  Have a listen to Restless Legs by Half Man Half Biscuit on their amusingly named album, Achtung Bono, it will tell you all you need to know about living with restless legs.  Susie is trying to find a spot on the ferry to get a bit more sleep.  A fellow cyclist on the ferry has kindly suggested a type of herbal tea that could help, so we will have to track some down. Any suggestions would be very welcome, we need to find a solution!

While Susie dozes and her legs dream of 20% hill climbs, the scenery leaving Tarbert and the Outer Hebrides is drifting by;

It's feels warm this morning, layers were being removed as soon as we arrived at the ferry.  No wind proof jacket required today.  We have about 30 miles to ride, leaving Uig about 10am after getting off the ferry and buying something for lunch.  There are a couple of big hill climbs, but I think it will be steadier going than the intense ups and downs of Harris.  I hope so anyway, as I can sense raised tantrum risk in both sides of the camp this morning!  The weather has been really so good to us and has progressively improved as our tiredness has increased, it could have easily been a very different story.

Susie is right about one of the most enjoyable things being the people we have met.  That's travelling for you, you get to meet lots of very different people all with a common interest; a Hebridean crofter/builder/fireman (multiple vocations seems common on the islands), a German physicist, an American Peace Institute adviser and many others, all very interesting people.  I'm hoping one day we will be able to visit John and Rita in New York and 'do lunch' as John suggested.
