Skye, Ose to Breakish

Another day of clear sunny skies and big views as we progressed 38 miles down the west coast of Skye, and crossing eastwards to Breakish.  Snow still on the Cuillin Hills, it must have been over 20degrees at road level.

Susie sporting her Regency Runners top (unashamed product placement for the Leamington ladies runners!).

Traffic on the road did get progressively more intense but ok -ish until we reached the A87 with about 10miles to go.  This just isn't a road for cyclists, it's a real shame as its the only route southwards, and the traffic turned fairly nasty.  It wasn't the volume of traffic, it was the nature of it; fast and occasionally dangerous, apparently desperate in some cases to make faster progress.  Cars and coaches cutting in close to your shoulder with oncoming traffic swerving out if the way, scary!  I ride into Birmingham City centre reasonably often and I feel a lot safer doing that than riding a bike south on Skye.  This road is designed for speed, and makes no provision for cyclists or pedestrians.

We had a couple of interesting chats with local people, and its clear this is quite a big issue for them too.

Breakish is a very pleasant place though

With a lovely view from our B&B

Fortunately, the road tomorrow to Armadale takes us off the A87 on hopefully quieter roads, with only about 15miles further to the final ferry.
