The train from Mallaig to Glasgow was packed, avoid Saturdays or definitely book a seat! We had fortunately booked ahead for the bikes.
A few extra photos from our trip....
Memorial on Vatersay....a moving sight (apologies for bad photo, mucky lens). The wreckage has been left where it fell at the side of the road;
Health and safety at Barra airport;
..... they do take it seriously as a coach party found out when some of them strayed onto the edge of the beach and received a severe telling off.
Five deer all staring down at us, impressive camouflage....
Susie looking for food, impressive camouflage.....
As Susie says, a very successful trip. We did get pretty tired towards the end of 8 days of cycling and were very lucky to have had favourable weather; bad weather could have made the journey impossible for us to complete.
Let us know if you would like to see details of the itinerary and places we stayed. We booked in February, and found several places were already fully booked at that time for dates at the end of May
We would recommend avoiding cycling the A87 on Skye, but there are stretches that are unavoidable. Total miles cycled turned out to be 273m, and we'd originally thought it would be about 240m. Definitive guide used to plan the route; Cycling in the Hebrides by Richard Barrett.
We hope you enjoyed the blog.
